Photos of photos

These photographs of photographs Lee took might not look like much to you but for me they are pretty exciting!

These are the first of my photographs to be hanging outside of our home or a family member’s home! I’ve had some travel photos published in the past but this is the first time to have my photos permanently displayed in more of a public place. These are two of four photos selected to hang at one of the Mental Health Association of South Central Kansas’ residential facilities. The photos are hung in the clubhouse and office areas.

* disclaimer: Lee works for the Mental Health Association. I sleep with Lee. So there’s that :)

To see the other two images selected — and some of my other favorite photos — take a look at my professional portfolio site at www.MelindaSchnyder.com. It’s a new site like this one and I’m slowly adding to the portfolio from thousands of photos I’ve taken over the years as well as writing projects.

      I have three cameras:
      a Canon T1i digital SLR
      a Sony Cyber-shot
      a Fuji Finepix XP20 underwater
Plus, of course, my iPhone :)

I use the Canon the most but like to have the Sony point-and-shoot as a backup on trips (this came in handy when my DSLR stopped working the first day of our big trip to Glacier National Park, Banff, Lake Louise, etc. in August 2009). It’s also nice to take the Sony when I need an option that will fit in my pocket. The Fuji is newish and I got it to use when we snorkel or go out on boats. The jury is still out on whether I like it or not.

When Canon first introduced a DSLR at $999 (not sure what year that was), I snapped it up and went crazy being able to take 20 versions of the same shot and not have to waste tons of film! Little did I know that you can actually wear out the motor of these cameras. That’s exactly what I did.

Apparently the $999 price tag meant the camera was disposable. The camera shop said it would be so costly to fix that it made more sense to buy a new model.

So I replaced my original Rebel with a T1i about 3 years ago. At that time, I made the decision to downsize on lenses. I decided to go with the philosophy of having one lens that covers nearly all the shots I want to take so that I don’t have to stop and switch lenses or haul around a backpack pull of lenses when we are out hiking. Now I use a Tamron 18-270.

Would love to hear what cameras others have.
